NFC TIMES Exclusive – PayPal will use the Discover Financial Services acceptance infrastructure and tokenization for its move to in-store payments with Android Pay, NFC Times has confirmed.
As NFC Times reported yesterday, a deal between PayPal and Google will enable U.S. PayPal users to tap their NFC-enabled smartphones to pay for in-store purchases with their PayPal balances using Google’s HCE-enabled Android Pay wallet app. It’s yet another attempt by PayPal to expand its e-commerce payments business to brick-and-mortar stores.
PayPal also announced Tuesday it will enable its U.S. customers to use their mobile devices to pay with their Wells Fargo debit and credit cards in stores. The payments would also use host card emulation. PayPal users are expected to be able to pay directly with the Wells Fargo bank cards loaded into an HCE-enabled PayPal wallet, which PayPal has not yet released. This would likely use another acceptance infrastructure, most likely Visa payWave and tokenization from Visa.
