Samsung Electronics is the latest–and largest–smartphone maker to introduce its own branded NFC tags, with its launch of TecTiles programmable tags.
Samsung announced the tags today targeted at the U.S. market and noted the tags could be purchased in shops of the four major U.S. carriers.
With TecTiles and the TecTiles Android app that can be downloaded from the Google Play store, Samsung said users can program tags for a range of actions. For example, they can tap to change their phone’s Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, sound and brightness settings or to automatically join a Wi-Fi network. They could program other tags to send a text message, share a business card, open a Web address or map or check on social media sites.
