NFC TIMES Exclusive – Taiwan’s EasyCard Corp., the operator of the country’s largest closed-loop transit and retail payments service, is working with a provider of Bluetooth-enabled mobile payments technology to offer customers an NFC-like experience to pay for rides and purchases in stores.
EasyCard, which has more than 50 million Mifare-based contactless cards on issue, has dabbled unsuccessfully in the past in using Android NFC phones to enable fare collection onboard buses and at subway gates, along with retail payments at thousands of terminals throughout the island nation.
It now appears to be planning to use Bluetooth low energy, or BLE, with apps running on both Android and iOS smartphones, using technology from Israel-based WiseSec.
