NFC Times Exclusive – There’s more evidence that Apple is gearing up to launch Apple Pay in China early next year, and not only with China’s big four state-run banks, as was earlier reported.
NFC Times has obtained screenshots via a Chinese user who was able to download his China Merchants Bank credit card into an Apple Wallet on his iPhone 6s and to conduct a transaction on a China UnionPay contactless terminal in Shanghai. He had downloaded the iOS 9.2, released today in China, which supported the card image.
In addition, a report in a Chinese blog noted that a user could load cards from other banks–Industrial & Commercial Bank of China and Agricultural Bank of China, both of which are among the big four, as well as China CITIC Bank and China Merchants Bank–but could not load a Bank of China card, which is also a big four bank.
