Nokia has introduced an app supporting NFC-based check-ins on social-networking site foursquare and is testing a tag system that it says could provide more security for rewards and other loyalty programs.
Update: Nokia today launched three new NFC-enabled Symbian smartphones, along with yet another update to its Symbian operating system, but the handset maker told NFC Times it will not support secure elements on its Symbian NFC phones until the first half of 2012.
A small group of advertising agency staffers will be able to tap their NFC phones on smart posters in New York and Los Angeles starting next week to view videos clips of a reality TV show and link to the show’s Facebook page, according to UK-based NFC application provider Proxama.
Nokia plans to release its update to the Symbian operating system, called Anna, in July or August to turn on the NFC features of its C7 smartphone worldwide. The move signals the start of a new NFC push by the Finland-based handset maker.
